Why Can Single Parents Feel Lonely Even When They Are Never Alone?
Parenting alone can mean having someone who needs you at every hour while having little space to ask, 'How am I doing?' Practical help matters, but emotional companionship matters too.
Some parents hesitate to speak because they fear being judged. They may worry that admitting exhaustion will be interpreted as not loving their children. Others have family nearby but still feel unable to explain the pressure without hearing advice or criticism.
Loneliness can appear when decisions have to be made alone: money, school, health appointments, discipline, work schedules and ordinary household problems. The burden is often thousands of small decisions with nobody beside you to say, 'I understand.'
A useful conversation does not always need a solution. Sometimes a parent needs another adult to listen without turning the moment into a lecture. 'Do you want advice, or do you just need me to hear you?' can change the tone completely.
Support for parents should not replace their own relationships or professional services when needed. It can simply create one more place where a person does not have to pretend carrying everything alone is easy.
